This in-home newborn session in Oostburg, Wisconsin was one of those full-circle moments for me. Jenna, the mom, and I went to school together in Sussex, Wisconsin, and it’s wild how much life can change in a little over ten years. Walking into her home for this newborn session felt like stepping into such a beautiful new chapter of her life. She now has an incredible family with her husband, two sweet boys, and their newborn baby girl. Being able to document this season for them is something I will never forget.

One of the first things I noticed when I walked into their home was how familiar it felt to my own. It was cozy, lived in, and full of love. They do not live in a huge perfectly styled home, but the love inside of it could fill a mansion. Honestly, that is what matters most during an in-home newborn session.

I always tell my clients that your home does not need to look picture perfect for beautiful photos. In fact, I tell them to not clean anything before I come and to allow me to organize for them so they can relax! Some of the most meaningful images come from the simplest spaces. For this session, we used two areas of their home (their living room couch & their bedroom), and created so much variety from it. That is one of the things I love most about lifestyle newborn photography. It is not about perfection. It is about finding the beauty in the exhausted chaos of it all.

When it comes to newborn photography, I take a completely baby-led approach. If your baby is hungry, we stop and feed them. If they need extra comfort or time to settle, we allow space for that. There is never pressure to rush through the session or work through tears. Your baby sets the pace, because this experience is about caring for and celebrating your newborn baby.

This session is one I will always hold close to my heart. Seeing Jenna again after all these years and getting to meet her beautiful baby girl and her family brought me so much happiness. Being invited back into someone’s life years later to document such an important milestone is something I never take lightly. Here’s what Jenna had to say:
