I Remember How Awkward Senior Photos Can Be

I may have graduated from Sussex Hamilton over 10 years ago (no way am I really that old 🫠….also shoutout to my Chargers), but I promise you that although I am now a West Bend, Wisconsin senior photographer — I still remember exactly how awkward senior photos felt. 

Mine were taken by my mom’s friend (thank you again Mary!). Which meant my mom was there. Watching. Every. Single. Move.

I remember standing there trying to smile “normal” while also being told to “smile more,” “stand up straighter,” and “fix your hair.” I had no idea what to do with my hands, my face felt stiff, and every smile was 100% fake. It was basically awkward as hell. 

And honestly? Feeling that way about senior photos is super normal — especially if you’ve never had professional photos taken before. Even as a West Bend, Wisconsin senior photographer, I still feel awkward in front of the camera so I totally get it.

Why My Sessions Are Different

But that’s the exact reason why I make my sessions fun and I help you feel comfortable. You deserve to actually enjoy your session and have a good time so you can remember it being enjoyable rather than completely awkward the entire time. 

As a West Bend senior photographer, my goal is to make sure I pick out poses and prompts that will help you shine and make you feel comfortable. A lot of times during my sessions, I will ask my seniors to do certain poses and then i’ll just tell them “NOPE” and move onto something else because I could tell they felt awkward or didn’t like it. I don’t want stiff shoulders, forced smiles, or that “what do I do with my arms” panic. I want you to walk into your session feeling relaxed, supported, and confident — even if you’re not normally someone who loves being in front of the camera.

We will talk, laugh, and move around the entire time so you won’t just have to stand there the entire time. And nine times out of ten, I’m going to say something stupid to get you to laugh or i’ll pose with you so you don’t feel like the awkward one out. Because here’s the truth:
