I am sure there are many times that you and your family have booked a photography session and then immediately began to panic because you had no idea what to wear. Well, I heard your concern, and I am here to help :) Here are some basic ideas to help you choose your outfits for your next session!

Location:

First of all, think about your location and the time of year you’re getting your photos done. Are we taking your photos in a wide open green/grassy field during summer? Will your pictures be taken on a beach? Or will we be hiking through a snowy forest?

Choosing a color scheme:

Next, take into consideration your location and choose a color palette. You’ll want to consider what colors are going to look best with your backdrop. A super easy way to do this is to hop onto Pinterest and search something like “family photoshoot color palette beach”. This will show you color schemes that will compliment your scenery. It often helps to get color ideas versus actual outfit ideas so that way you don’t feel like you have to dress exactly like the models in the pictures. And as always, you can always ask me for color ideas! I am more than happy to help.

Accessorize:

Another great way to coordinate everyone's outfits together is by accessorizing. Not everyone has to be wearing the same colors, but adding in some accessories to outfits can help bring all the colors together to give them a more unified look. For example, if you are wearing a white shirt and your daughter is wearing a pink dress, you could wear a pink necklace to match her outfit and bring the colors together!

Patterns:

Patterns can also help add some spice to your shoot! People are often scared to add patterns to their outfit because they feel like it’s going to be too distracting, but it often turns out to be the exact opposite. Choosing patterns that involve colors from your color palette can often add some variation to your photos that would’nt have otherwise been there.

Comfort:

Last but not least, choose comfort! Being comfortable during your photoshoot is one of the most important aspects of your entire outfit. Sessions with MelMarie Photography will require movement such as walking, bending, sitting, etc. Moms, I’ll usually suggest that you choose your outfit first and build everyone else’s off of yours. This way you can make sure you are comfortable in your outfit and don’t have to make sacrifices along the way!
